Eckersberg painted in a rather neo-classical style, a shade different from the intimate realism of most painters of the Danish golden age, although this painting does not diverge greatly from that. He is best remembered for his painting of a half-naked woman seen from the back in a mirror, which we have already had here long ago.

This dates from much later, 1852, but his style is much the same.
