An Austrian painter who was one of the best portraitists of the Biedermeier period; I think this is the most attractive work of this that I have come across. It shows Julie Gräfin von Woyna, and was painted in 1832. A wonderful hairstyle and dress, and the Countess herself is exceptionally charming and pretty, with her dreamy air. This portrait benefits from the somewhat cool presentation, it is not too sugary, as some of his portraits tend to be.

Portrait of Elise Kreuzberger, 1837, more luscious in its style, and also more sentimental; though appealing nonetheless in its way.

A detail, showing the nature of the brushwork; I'm afraid it rather reminds me of Greuze!
