A Polish artist whose work seems worth knowing. To begin with, this arresting portrait from 1903, of a certain Sophia Cybulska Sokołówskich. (I am sure none of you would commit the terrible fault of pronouncing an ł like an l!)
A painting of a couple looking at pictures in a studio, from 1883. But as far as I can judge, his best work dates from rather later than that, after he had come into contact with more modern movements in art, in France etc.
He seems to have been a good flower-painter, this is the most refined example that I have found.
