George Richmond, Miss Lewis, 1854

Richmond made portraits of all the Victorian great and good, Charlotte Bronte, Charles Darwin, John Henry Newman and the like, but these are some of the best that I have seen (particularly the second). I have no idea who this Miss Lewis is (they could even be two sisters), nor does the National Portrait Gallery, which owns them, seem to know. There is a little box on the relevant page of their webiste saying, 'Can you tell us more about this person'?'. No doubt one of the innumerable visitors to this gallery will be able to help them out.
