This is Caroline Amalie of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg, later Queen of Denmark as wife of Christian VIII. Dahl was Norwegian by birth (Norway then falling under the Danish crown), but had settled in Dresden by this period. He was invited to Italy by Prince Christian in 1820 and was thus able to visit the Gulf of Naples and Rome, a stay in Italy being highly valued by artists at that period.
