This was painted at Grez-sur-Loing, where the composer Delius lived, in an old house that had a garden that ran down toward the river.
Delius's music is fearsomely difficult to perform in a manner that brings out the full poetry of it. One always has to go back to Beecham for the full magic. Night on the river -
