Francis Seymour Haden, Whistler's Hands, etching

Photobucket

Haden (1818-1910), who was a surgeon by profession, was married to one of Whistler's sisters. Whistler is wielding an etching needle in this print.

Photobucket
A self-portrait showing Haden himself at work on an etching. Somehow he looks more like a doctor than an artist.

Photobucket
A cottage window. Haden liked to work directly on to the plate in front of his subject.
