An Austrian artist (1790-1849) who specialized in portrait miniatures and paintings on porcelain, but also made many watercolours of plants and flowers in his later years, apparently for his own enjoyment and as source of reference. They have a collection of 415 of his botanical watercolours in the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna; most were made during journeys in Carintia and Lower Austria. An article (in German) about his botanical interests:

A mere Kuhschelle in German, but in English a Pasque flower or passiontide anemone; a flower of rare beauty under any name. Exceedingly rare in England, I've never seen one in the wild.

Lady's slipper orchid. Despite efforts at reintroduction, there is apparently still only a single flowering plant in Britain!
