Louis Janmot, paintings from 'The poem of the Soul', 1835-55

Here's a real oddity for you. Louis Janmot (1814-92) was a follower of Ingres whose main work was a cycle of 18 paintings illustrating his own long poem on the progress of the soul. They can be seen in the museum at his native Lyon. These are sweet and naive pictures reminiscent of the Nazarenes and Pre-Raphaelites. This one is entitled the Rays of the Sun.
